This is straight?

This is not a tongue in cheek LGBTQIA Blog post for #pride month, but if it were, that would totally be the title.

So frequently I find myself looking at my profile while teaching to notice if I am supporting my body with a balanced posture. I often times am not. I am leaning, backwards. Straight up BACKWARDS, all weight in my heels evaluating someone else’s posture and supporting them in a workout. The irony has me SMH while I type. It is my body’s constant work to center my pelvis directly over my ankles, more forward than feels nature or “straight” up and down. Sounds easy, to know where we are in space, but life and work puts everyone’s body in artificial positions that make us FEEL like we know what “straight” is, where our “center” is but when you take a peek, upon further inspection . . . We are off balance!

The purpose of this quick blog post is a simple ask, check out your profile! Is your ear, above your shoulder etc etc cascading in a line straight down? Or is it broken (like mine)? And the biggest question is why should you care? Pain, and injury. That’s why. Those are the results of a body off balance.
